Secretary: Mr Ronald Mizzi

Mr Ronald Mizzi was born on 3rd
July 1982 and hails from the town of Zabbar. He joined the Maltese Public
Service in 2004 as an Economics Officer with the Rural Development Department,
and in 2006, he began an assignment as Research Analyst within the Forum Malta
fl-Ewropa which lasted until 2008. He then worked as Projects Manager and later
as Senior Manager within Malta’s Managing Authority for EU funding wherein he
successfully managed and executed a number of critical EU-funded projects under
the 2004-2006 and 2007-2013 funding programmes, including the successful
closure of the first programme.
He served the Managing Authority until 2013
when he was selected for the post of Director EU Affairs and Programme
Implementation within the then Ministry for Energy and the Conservation of
Water.
Mr Mizzi was appointed Permanent
Secretary of the Ministry for Energy and Health (Energy) in April 2014 and he
later served as Permanent Secretary within the Office of the Prime Minister
with a portfolio including energy, water and public-private initiatives. He was
notably instrumental in leading the energy reforms which took place in this
period including the successful State Aid negotiations with the European
Commission on the new Delimara Energy Project.
In 2017, Mr Mizzi was appointed
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry for Tourism with a portfolio which includes
aviation and Air Malta, tourism and related studies, external transport, the
film industry and Public Private Partnerships.
Mr Mizzi has a Masters Degree in
European Studies and a first Degree in International Relations.
